I am currently a sophomore at Damien High School and a second-year debate student. Please refer to me as Ryan, Judge, or any other formal names. I evaluate as a policymaker and I also highly value statistics. I would also as the debaters to slow down on the tags and to speak with clarity. In order to get high speaker points, I need to see that the debater knows the cards inside and out without having to look at the documents. For PF Debaters: In short, I will vote for whoever can establish a clearer link chain for their contention that results in the greatest impact (timeframe, magnitude, etc.).

I will always try my very best to judge fairly and objectively based upon who I believe delivers the logical and most convincing argument during the debate. Feel free to ask any questions -- just like yourselves, I am here to become better. Thus, I believe that a well-thought-out debate should be a learning experience that hones and sharpens your skills as debaters. We are all here to learn, and I believe debates should be treated from this educational viewpoint.

Please don't run any complicated or convoluted arguments without explaining them thoroughly. Illustration and explanation are crucial to me. If I cannot internally and logically construct the main argument(s) of your case, it makes the debate difficult for me to judge. I will prefer whichever argument can explain the benefits of their side with more skill. Conversely, if you do explain your arguments thoroughly during the debate, it makes it easier for me to flow and judge. Additionally, try to run arguments that you feel comfortable with running; don't stress out about it. As debaters, it is your responsibility to convince me why you should win the debate, which is why you should present arguments that you're are familiar with.

In terms of speaks, generally, I will award them as follows: 30/30 for an outstanding speech and arguments; 29.5-29/30 for an extremely well-done speech, evidence, and arguments; 28.5-28/30 for a pretty good speech and use of evidence to support your arguments; 27.5-27/30 for an average speech with decent use of evidence and arguments, and a 26.5 or below means that students were not conducting themselves well, did not speak very well, did not use evidence very well, etc. The way I give speaks is to make the debater better. Again, feel free to ask any questions after the debate. TLDR: The better your speech, use of evidence, respectfulness, and arguments are, the more speaks you will obtain.

As for my experience, I have been in debate classes for about a year and a half now, mostly with experience in policy. Hence I will evaluate other styles of debate based on whoever has the most logical arguments which avoid the largest and worst impacts.

I do not offend easily, so these debates should feel relaxed but respectful. All in all, all I ask is that you try your best, act in a manner becoming of a student (this includes not swearing, being polite during your opponent's speeches, etc.), act respectfully toward your opponents and the judges, and, above all, have fun.
