Debate

Varsity Policy, Novice Policy, VLD, NLD, PFD, Congressional Debate and World Schools Debate

contestants may only enter in one debate event.

LD, PF, Congressional Debate, and World Schools Debate competitors may cross-enter in extemporaneous speaking, only.

It is the expectation that PF, CX and World Schools debaters will participate and speak in debate rounds on camera in unique (separate) spaces/environments.  

Policy Debaters may not cross-enter in events.

  • The tournament will not break brackets in elimination rounds of debate. 

  •  A novice is defined as a competitor in their first school year in high school TFA competitions. 

  • Policy Debate will be debating the 2020 - 2021 Resolution – Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing. 

  • VLD and Novice LD Debate will be debating the September/October NSDA Resolution  – Resolved: In a democracy, voting ought to be compulsory.

  • VPF and Novice PF Debate will be debating the September/October NSDA Resolution - Resolved: The United States federal government should enact the Medicare-For-All Act of 2019.

World Schools Motions

Rounds 3 and the final round will be Impromptu Motions.

The other rounds will use the following motions:

Round 1: This House regrets the dominance of the two-party system in American politics.

Round 2: This House would require virtual education during a pandemic.

Round 3: Impromptu

Semifinals: This House would provide a universal basic income.

Final Round: Impromptu

 

Extemp

IX, USX, NX-Events will be held live-synchronously, Saturday, Aug. 29. Students may only enter one extemporaneous speaking event; however, they may cross-enter in other I.E.’s or PF, LD, Congressional Debate, or World Schools Debate.

Novice Extemp will include scaffolding topics (U.S. Politics)

 

I.E.’s

DI, OO, PO, HI, PR, INF, POI (Contestants may cross-enter in these events). Students will submit        video/audio recordings by adding their video links to NSDA Campus by Tuesday, August 25 at 11:59 PM. The video recordings will be judged for the preliminary round and semifinals.

It is the expectation that DUET/DUO competitors will record their performances on camera in unique (separate) spaces/environments. 

All final rounds will be held, Saturday, Aug. 29, and the final rounds for these events will be held live-synchronously. 

DUO/DUET will follow the same rules, as above ****except****the final round will be held the same as prelims and semifinals, with the judges ranking the recorded performances of the finalists.
