Congress Invitation

West Bend Congress -- General Information for Friday, February 7, 2014 

 

1. Schedule: 3:00 – 3:30 Registration in East Library (buses will leave the East lot at 2:45. Parking in East 

 will make your arrival and departure easier.) 

 3:30 – 3:45 Set Agenda 

 3:45 - 4:00 PO Voting 

 4:00 – 5:45 Session # 1 

 5:45 - 6:25 Dinner Break in East Library (sub bar) 

 6:30 – 8:15 Session # 2 

 8:15 Voting followed by Awards in Library 

 

We will follow the schedule. If you arrive late, your students will join Congress “in progress”. This may 

negatively affect their final ranks. 

2. One PO for each session. PO’s in the same chamber may not be from the same school. 

3. Awards will be Top PO and Top Speaker. In an attempt to “share the loot” these awards will go to different 

contestants. 

 

Legislation 

Must be in my hands no later than noon on January 31. No exceptions. Legislation will be posted on 

TABROOM. Make copies for your students. To eliminate unfair advantage, only posted legislation may be 

used in chambers. Email to: dsexton@west-bend.k12.wi.us 

 

Participants 

1. Remain in the same chamber for both sessions. 

2. Select a PO for each session 

3. Will determine Top PO with one vote per school. 

4. Collect your score sheets from scorekeepers at the end of each session. 

5. Set agenda – one student per school. 

6. Precedence will not reset for session # 2. 

 

Scorekeepers 

1. Will write critiques for every other speech. This should allow time for detailed comments. 

2. Will rank the top 8 contestants at the end of each session (based on speeches, questions and general decorum. 

The PO can be included in your top 8.) 

 

Parliamentarians 

1. Will score the PO twice during the session. 

2. Will rank the top 8 speakers (after session 2) based on both sessions. 

3. Will conduct voting for session PO’s and Top PO. 

 

Register on www.tabroom.com $ 10 per student includes dinner. One judge for 1- 5 students. 

Two judges needed for 6 or more participants. 

 

Specific chamber assignments for judges and students will be made during registration.
