International Club Debate League Nationals Tournament

Dear Colleagues,

 

Capitol Debate cordially invites you to the Inaugural International Club Debate Nationals Tournament. This year’s tournament will be held May 6-7, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency – Morristown in Morristown, NJ. We will offer varsity competition in High School & Middle School Classical Debate. We will be hosting 6 preliminary debates in all divisions and then a requisite amount of elimination debates based on the number of participating teams in each division. Students will debate the May Topic which is “Resolved: The minimum wage should be abolished in the United States”

 

To clarify, this tournament is for recognized Club programs only, not school based programs as we will be competing in a club specific format. Registration will open on March 1, 2017. Entries are due at 11:00 PM ET on Friday, April 28, 2017. All entries will be initially placed on a waitlist. Full payment must be received before teams can be taken off the waitlist. To expedite being removed off the waitlist, we can send teams a link upon request to pay via credit card or you can send a paypal payment directly to bratt@capitoldebate.com.

 

Fees are as follows:

Club Debate - $120.00 per team

 

Teams can request for an 80 percent refund until Friday, April 28, 2017. After that date, absolutely no refunds will be provided. If you must pay via check, please make payable to Capitol Debate and mail to: 2100 Palomar Airport Road Suite 214-41 Carlsbad, CA 92011 Please advise if you mailed a check so that we can keep our eyes out for your check. We will host an in-person registration on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the tournament location; and we will also have online on-site registration available through Tabroom.com. Online on-site registration will be open from 12 pm to 9 pm Friday. Each school must register during that time to confirm that its coaches and judges are in the area. Please do not register unless you are actually in the area. In line with previous Capitol Debate tournaments, we are committed to providing outstanding hospitality for all those who attend to make your stay more enjoyable. Age Separation:

The tournament is divided into two division U13 for students ages 11-13 and U16 for students ages 13+. To find out where you students should be entered calculate their birthday in accordance with the tournament month. If your student is 13 but turns 14 in the next 6 months they should be in the U16 division. If your student is 13 but turns 14 in the next 7+ months they should be in the U13 division.

 

Format:

As stated earlier, we will be participating in a separate format from interscholastic debate. This format was made specifically for club based students and will be the exclusive format at all Capitol Debate Club League Tournaments. To learn more about the Club format click the link HERE.
