Welcome to the St. Croix Preparatory Academy's Lion's Den Debate Tournament, which will take place on Saturday, October 15th, 2016. We are excited to host this tournament once again, and we hope that you enjoy your time in our new and growing school. This tournament will feature Novice and Open divisions in Lincoln-Douglas debate and Policy debate, and we plan on using every available space in our school to accommodate as many entries as possible. This is a one day tournament, and all other available information is listed below. Once again, thank you for considering our tournament! 

Formats:

Lincoln-Douglas - We will offer Novice and Open (JV/V combined) Lincoln-Douglas divisions. Each division will compete in four preliminary rounds followed by a final round, which will feature the top two teams in that division. Awards will be given to the top five speakers in each division and also the top four teams in each division.

Novice Resolution: "Resolved: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified."  

Open Resolution: "Resolved: Countries ought to prohibit the production of nuclear power."

Policy - We will offer Novice and Open (JV/V combined) Policy divisions. Each division will compete in four preliminary rounds, with no elimination rounds. Awards will be given to the top five speakers in each division and also the top four teams in each division.

Resolution: "Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People's Republic of China."

 

***NOTE: Novice Policy will be allowed to use Phase 1 and 2 files from the Novice Case Limits of Minnesota. This includes: Space Aff, SCS Aff, HRts Aff, Sanctions Aff, Elections DA, CCP Stability DA, All counterplans and CP responses, and Topicality. (Basically, no CapK).  

 

Tournament Schedule: 

7:00am - 7:50am: Registration

8:00am - Round 1 for CX

8:30am - Round 1 for LD

9:45am - Round 2 for CX and LD

11:00am - Round 3 LD

12:00pm - Round 3 CX

12:30pm - Round 4 LD

1:30pm - Round 5 LD

2:00pm - Round 4 CX

2:30pm - Final Round LD

4:00pm - Awards

 

Judges: Each school must provide one judge per two LD debaters and one judge per two CX teams. If you have an odd number of teams entered, round up the number of judges you should supply. There will be no judges for hire for this tournament, so if you cannot supply judges, then your teams will be dropped. Please contact me as soon as possible if there is an issue with this requirement. 

Meals: Concessions will be available for purchase in the cafeteria throughout the day, and pizza will be for sale during the lunch hours.
