Glacier High School in Kalispell, Montana, will host an “in-person” Speech & Debate tournament on Friday, January 5th, and Saturday, January 6th, 2024. All teams are invited!

Entry Deadline: Your completed registration is due at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, December 20th, on TABROOM.COM. The tournament should be available on the Tabroom website in the next few days. You make any changes to your entry until 4:00 pm, Wednesday, January 3rd.

ENTRIES: There will not be a limit on entries! Bring everyone. However, only four entries in each event will count toward team sweepstakes points. Non-counting JV and extra slots must be identified before the first round begins on Friday. Events include Varsity Policy Debate, Varsity LD Debate, Public Forum Debate, Legislative Debate, Extemp, Impromptu, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Memorized Public Address, Program Oral Interp, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, and Duo Interp. We will not offer novice debate events at this tournament.

RULES: All events will be conducted according to the MHSA Handbook, except Debaters may enter a speech event! (Your Debate event + 1 speech event). Speech students may enter a debate event (Speech event + 1 debate event). Non-debaters may enter triple-enter in speech events.

SCHEDULE: All events will have the traditional AA schedule (Speech 5 rounds plus Semifinals and finals, Debate 5 rounds, plus Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals). If the debate events are small, we will consider using a round-robin format to encourage more debates.

FEES: Each participant will be charged a $6.00 entry fee plus a $30 team fee. A $5.00 charge will be for all drops and adds made after the January 3rd deadline.

REGISTRATION: There will be no on-site registration. I will share code #s and tabbing assignments on Thursday. Please check your registration carefully and notify me immediately of any problems/changes.

BUILDINGS: All events will be held at Glacier High School.

CONCESSIONS: Full concessions may not be available on site. More information after Christmas break!

JUDGES: We intend to use community and college-aged (home for Christmas Break) judges. Please let us know if you can bring any extra judges. Recent high school graduates will not be allowed to judge “their” events, and we will do our best to ensure that those students avoid biases.

AWARDS: The Awards Assembly will be held on Saturday at 7:30 pm in the PERFORMANCE HALL at Glacier High. Awards and certificates will be given to the finalists in every event. Awards will be given to the top teams in “AA” and “ABC”.
