MCFL Debate Qualifier

Fort Atkinson High School

Divisions: LD, PF, Policy. There are no Novice or JV divisions offered. Each school is permitted to enter 5 entries in each division. Only schools who are members of the MCFL may enter this qualifier. This is NOT a WDCA sanctioned tournament and will follow NCFL rules.

Rounds: There will be 4 rounds in Policy and 5 rounds in PF and LD. If a division had 6 or fewer teams as of 5 PM on Wednesday, that division will be canceled with all entered students earning qualification. Please see the specific pairing procedures below.

Awards. Awards will be presented to the 6 qualifiers in each division.

Judges: You are required to be 1 judge for every 2 entries. Each division will have a separate pool. If you have suggestions for potential hired judges, please email their contact information to John at John.Knetzger@milwaukeecfl.org Unaffiliated judges are preferred.

Fees: $20 per LD entry. $30 per PF and Policy entry. Checks must be mailed within 1 month of the qualifier. If a payment is not submitted/received in time, qualifying spots may be given to the alternates.

Deadline: Registrations are due at 6 PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2023. You may drop or change names until 7:30 AM on Saturday.

Nationals: The NCFL Grand National Tournament will be held in person in Chicago, IL on May 25-26, 2024. Please be certain your entries are able and willing to travel to compete in this tournament.

Schedule:

Online check in by 8:00 AM

Round 1 8:30 AM

A lunch break will occur after round 3 of PF/LD and round 2 of policy

A brief awards ceremony will take place after rounds have concluded.

Pairing procedures:

Policy: Rounds 1-2 preset (random)

Rounds 3-4 Hi/Lo in brackets, with side constraints

PF/LD: Rounds 1-3 preset

Round 4 Hi/Lo in brackets with side constraints

Round 5 Hi/Lo across the entire field with side constraints. School protection is removed as well.

In PF, sides are locked in round 1-4. In round 5 the winner of the coin toss choses sides. In all rounds, the pro side speaks first.
