JERSEY SHORE INVITATIONAL AT MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY (November 17-19)

We are pleased to announce the invitation to participate in the Jersey Shore Invitational at Monmouth University to be held from November 18-19, 2023 This year's policy debate tournament will feature six preliminary rounds of competition including two on Friday, four on Saturday plus elim rounds on Sunday. We will be debating the 2023-24 NDT/CEDA resolution:Resolved: The United States should restrict its nuclear forces in one or more of the following ways:

· adopting a nuclear no-first-use policy; · eliminating one or more of the legs of its nuclear triad; · disarming its nuclear forces.

We want the the Jersey Shore Invitational at Monmouth University to be a great experience for everyone. The tournament will provide snacks on Friday and will provide breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday.

The in-person registration fee is $100 per team plus a $50 hospitality fee for coaches, judges and observers. or judge). The tournament will allow a limited number of hybrid entries at $80 per team plus a $30 fee for judges. If you need that accommodation, please let us know ASAP.

The tournament offers competition in policy debate in the open, jv and novice divisions. If collapsing is needed, we will inform coaches at the deadline. We will be using a 30-point scale with a tenth of a point increments (e.g. 27.1, 27.2 etc) on individual speaking scores.Joe Schatz will run the tab.

Our tournament is CEDA sanctioned and will comply with CEDA’s Statement on Sexual Harassment and Discrimination and the Statement of Ethical Principles and the ABAP Digital Bill of Rights for online rounds. Time limits for speeches are 9-3-6 with ten minutes of preparation time. Rounds one and two will be pre-determined and rounds three through six will be power matched. Each school is responsible for securing three rounds of judging for every team registered at the tournament. The tournament doesn't expect to have hired judging available.

Hotel Accommodations: There are many hotels just a couple of miles away from campus. We are in discussions about a discounted rate atThe Asbury Hotel, located near the beach at 210 5thAvenue in Asbury Park, NJ 07712. The Asburyis a five to ten minute drive to campus and isin walkingdistance to a lot of restaurants and musical venues, including the Stone Pony, made famous by Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, and a number of Jersey Shore musicians.
