The New Horizons Debate Circuit

The New Horizons Speech and Debate Team has a long debate tradition that goes back decades. Initially our team was focused in Model UN and around 2015, the debate team became an independent initiative, attending many national and international debate tournaments of the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA)

In 2014 is became one of the first Dominican schools to attend the Harvard University debate invitational (Now known as the Harvard Annual National Forensics Tournament)

In 2016 it was the only Dominican school to make it to outrounds, starting a tradition as the most dominating Dominican debate team in history.

In 2017 it became the first Dominican debate team to take a teams to Nationals at Harvard University debate tournament.

In 2018 it had the largest amount of international teams in outrounds, knocking off even the powerful Chinese delegations.

In 2019 it became the first and only Dominican debate team to make it to finals at Georgetown University debate tournament, with a striking 9-0 record, while also taking first and second speaking awards.

In 2020 it became the first and only Dominican debate team to take three teams to nationals at Harvard University debate tournament and the first and only Dominican team to ever win the international division at Harvard.

In 2022 we became the first Dominican team to attend the University of Florida, Blue Key Speech and Debate Tournament.

In 2023 we were again in the Harvard International Division finals, coming out as reserve champions in a split decision 2-1.

Today our team continues to grow, and improve. Our team holds the record in national and international debate tournament classifications, the most trophies at Harvard, Binghamton, Blue Key, and Georgetown debate tournaments, as well as several appearances at Kentucky Tournament of Champions.
