Dear coaches,

We would like to invite your teams to attend The Harker Policy & LD Tournament on November 14-16, 2014.

We will offer four divisions: open policy, novice policy, open LD and novice LD.

Our short term goal is to run a high quality event with experienced judges. Our long term goal is to build a substantial LD and policy tournament with regional or national draw to provide more national circuit debate for the Bay Area.

We will provide dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday.

Please contact us at grega@harker.org or jennya@harker.org with any questions.

We hope that you can join us!

Judges:

Hired judges must be requested by November 1st.  Once requested, we will actually hire someone and commit to paying them so please only request judges if you plan to pay the fee.

Judges must be experienced in policy or LD debate.  Novice can be judged by varsity debaters but we ask the judges have substantial varsity experience.  Varsity CANNOT be judged by high school students, lay judges, or judges who almost exclusively judge other events. If you are unable to provide qualified judging please contact us and we will work with you to provide judging. Likewise, if cost is an issue please contact us.

Every policy team three rounds of prelim judging and elim judging one round past their school’s elimination.

Every LD entry requires two rounds of prelim judging and elim judging one round past their school’s elimination.

We do expect judges to return on Sunday even if their team is eliminated after prelims.  ALL judges need to be prepared to judge the first elim.

Eligible entries:

No independent entries will be allowed.  Teams must be travelling with the approval of their school.

Policy debate teams must attend the same school.  Hybrids are not allowed, even if they attend the same after school debate academy.  Please email if you have any questions about this policy.
