EMAIL THAT WENT OUT YESTERDAY:

I was informed that content blockers may have been blocking out my tabroom emails yesterday, so here is the email with all of the relevant information (including the zoom room):

1. Platform - because of the late nature of the switch to online we will be using Zoom breakout rooms for the tournament as NSDA campus didn't have a quick enough turn around time for me to be confident the rooms would be approved. All rounds will be linked to a premade Zoom meeting and students will be able to pick the breakout room they are supposed to be in (they will be named the same as on the pairing). I will also be in the main zoom room helping with this process. The zoom link will be on the pairings and in your student's tabroom account, but I will copy and paste it here as well:

https://unl.zoom.us/j/96234223455?pwd=M1FJbklHVnIvamROQ2p2QzZ6NG9Udz09

2. Awards - Will be tabulated and dispersed in an email/document after the tournament. We have trophies/medals as we have every year that I will deliver to your school at the earliest convenience. This means that instead of attending synchronous awards at 5:00 like the schedule says, we will go straight into the next out round for LD/PF.

3. Outrounds - While subject to change, right now our pool sizes look like we will be doing partial quarterfinals in both LD and PF with Novice break-out Finals in LD and Semis in PF (See my email from earlier today). CX only has 3 teams and as such we will have each team debate each other once and then have a final round with the top 2 performers in place of Round 4 on the schedule.

4. Judges - Because of small pools your judges will still be committed one round past your team's elimination but may be pulled to judge other styles of debate (i.e. a CX judge may judge LD if they are struck against 2 of 3 teams in the CX pool). Thank you for being flexible with this :).

5. Registration - will be done online through your tabroom dashboard. Please "check in" your team as soon as you are all ready to compete. Any changes/issues should be brought to our attention as soon as you have them by joining the "tabroom" breakout room at the zoom link above.

2022 Lincoln North Star Debate Tournament Invite

Location: Lincoln North Star High School

Saturday January 22nd, 2022

Lincoln North Star High School cordially invites you and your squad to compete in our annual Debate Invitational on Saturday, January 22nd.  Our tournament is open for registration! Registration information can be found on Tabroom under the tournament title “The NaviGator at NorthStar.” You must use online registration. This year we will offer the following events. (Open & Novice): Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, and Congress. We will also offer policy debate, but in one collapsed pool.

Dates:

·         Entries due by 8pm the Tuesday before the tournament (1/18/2022).

·         Judges due by 5pm the Wednesday before the tournament (1/19/2022).

A Few Notes:

·         Lincoln Public Schools has mandated that face masks are required for all individuals inside the building except when consuming food or drink. For the safety of all involved, competitors, judges, coaches, and volunteers will all be required to be properly wearing their mask for the entirety of the tournament. Any issues or problems with this requirement will be dealt with swiftly and accordingly by tournament management.

·         All ballots will be electronic. Make sure your judges and debaters have a linked Tabroom account.

·         Internet: Students will be allowed to use the internet for email chains/speech drops as needed during rounds. All road maps will be off time. Management reserves the right to handle situations as they arise and as we see fit to best facilitate student learning. We will be using NSDA rules (including current topics).

·         Please make sure to check-in on Saturday morning to confirm that you have all of your entries. This will help us get off to a smooth and quick start at 8AM sharp. Check in with the tabroom when you arrive at the tournament.

Fees:

Entry fees will be used primarily to cover tournament expenses (Awards, Additional Judges, Hospitality, etc.) The fees for each event are as follows:

·         Lincoln Douglas Debate: $25 per entry

·         Policy Debate: $30 per team

·         Public Forum Debate: $30 per team

·         Student Congress: $20 per entry

Judging Commitments:

As has been the case for most tournaments this year, we will have a very small pool of hired judges available. The tournament director reserves the right to drop any entries that are not covered by judging commitments. In short, please cover all of your entries ????. Judges will be obligated for one round past their team’s elimination from the tournament. The various coverage/fees associated with judging requirements are as follows:

·         Lincoln Douglas: One judge covers two debaters. Uncovered entries may hire a judge for $150

·         Public Forum: One judge covers two teams. Uncovered entries may hire a judge for $150

·         Policy Debate: One judge covers two teams. Uncovered entries may hire a judge for $200

·         Congressional Debate: One judge per six competitors or part thereof. Uncovered entries may hire a judge for $10 per uncovered entry.

If you know of any individuals willing or able to judge beyond your commitment, please have them get in contact with me at nwallenb@lps.org
