Definitions

Affirmative: The team that speaks in support of the resolution. They are allowed to speak first and last, because they must demonstrate a need to change from the way the world is now.

Negative: The team that opposes the resolution. Their obligation is to demonstrate why the Affirmative's arguments are (a) wrong, (b) cause bad things to occur, and/or (c) trade off with something better.

Flexible Use Time: This is time that occurs in between speeches. It technically "belongs" to the team that speaks next--and they are free to ask questions of the opposing team, or to prepare their arguments for the next speech.
