Clash of the Titans

In-person, Debate Only Tournament!

EVENTS: This Debate tournament will follow VHSL rules for all Debate events.

1.  Lincoln-Douglas:  Novice* and Open, 4 rounds (First 3 random, last one power paired during long lunch)

2.  Public Forum:  Novice* and Open,  4 rounds. (First 3 random, last one power paired during long lunch)

 *Novice debaters must be in their first year of competitive debate. If there are not enough numbers to operate a separate novice bracket, they will be combined into the open division but top novice awards will still be given.  Please indicate on tabroom if a competitor is in his/her first year of competition.

3.  Student Congress:  Open division.  Each student should submit a bill (but does not HAVE to submit a bill) and teams should coordinate to divide bills up among the following 4 categories (Domestic, International, Virginia, Economic).  2 sessions of Congress, 2 hours each.  Congress topics are:  

Domestic: Abortion Rights & Voting/Elections

International:  Travel Restrictions & China-Pacific

Economic:  Infrastructure & Minimum Wage

Virginia:  Vaccine Mandates & Housing

Email Congress legislation to jaclyn_clark@ccpsnet.net  by Monday 11/8 (to ensure enough time for new competitors to write speeches). 

JUDGES:  

Each school is responsible for providing their own judges with the following quotas:

1 judge for:

…every 2 Lincoln-Douglas Debate entries or fraction thereof,

…every 2 Public Forum Debate entries or fraction thereof,

…every 5 Student Congress entries or fraction thereof

Unfortunately, if you show up without the required judging on Saturday morning, you will be forced to choose which competitors you drop.  Getting in person judges may be extremely difficult, but all schools need to bear their own burden.

COST:  FREE (thanks to a generous grant from The Richmond Forum and Capital One)

SCHEDULE:

Registration:   8:00 - 8:30 

Judges Meeting:   8:45 

Congress 1st session: 9:15-11:30 

Round 1 PF/LD: 9:15

Round 2 PF/LD: 10:15

Round 3 PF/LD: 11:15 

Congress LUNCH: 11:30-12:30

LUNCH BREAK for PF/LD: 12:00-1:15 **we will be power pairing round 4 during lunch

Congress 2nd session: 12:30-2:30

Round 4 PF/LD: 1:30

AWARDS: 3:30

LUNCH will be provided for students and judges through a generous grant from The Richmond Forum and Capital One.

AWARDS: 

Awards will be given to the top 3 finishers in each category.   The School with the highest points will be recognized as the Winner of the Clash of the Titans Debate Tournament.
