Washburn Rural Debate Invitational 2021

2021 — Topeka, KS/US

The Washburn Rural Debate Invitational is being hosted in-person from September 17th-19th. It is my feeling that it is much easier to switch a tournament to an online format if the times and school policies call for a change than it would be to switch it to in person. That being said, we will make a final call much closer to the start date of the tournament, based on public health, school community, and debate community advice.

A full invitation is attached. Here is a current list of advice to be expected at the tournament in regards to COVID precautions. This advice is compiled from recommendations made by the Kansas High School Activities Association, the Kansas Speech Communications Association, and the Auburn Washburn School District.

1) You will have to wear a mask at all times when indoors (including speaking)

2) Schools will be assigned common rooms to meet in between rounds and intersquad mingling will be discouraged

3) Judges will be encouraged (can't really enforce) to be vaccinated before they volunteer to judge

4) There will be no concessions or commons area for students to meet between rounds

5) We will attempt to do lunch on Saturdya with individual boxed lunches from Jason's Deli

6) The hospitality lounge for judges and coaches will be quite different from the past
