Thanks for joining us online for the 2021 Fairview Freeze tournament!

THE BIG STUFF: 

  • Pre-registration of entries and judges is due Wednesday, January 13th @ 5pm. (Note: after we confirm judge #s you will be able to make final changes through Friday, January 15th @5pm.)

  • Recordings and final judges must be added by Friday, January 15th @ 5pm.

  • We will be using Tabroom and rounds will be on NSDA campus. All student NSDA/Tabroom accounts must be linked prior to the tournament. Teams are responsible for checking tech set-up and access to NSDA campus.

  • Initial entry limit of 6 per event, but we anticipate clearing the waitlist.

  • Each school is responsible for providing judges to cover their entries. Additional entries will be allowed based on ability to provide judges. Let us know if this poses an issue. We are recruiting heavily from alumni, parents, and the community. 

  • $8 per asynchronous competitor; $10 per live competitor. We plan to offer college students $8/round.

  • Doubling is not allowed within waves but encouraged across waves. Students cannot double in CX and LD. Students may enter up to three asynchronous events.

  • Events will use NSDA rules with NSDA topics (CHSAA for Value Debate, Impromptu and Creative Storytelling)

  • A coach or responsible adult that can judge must be online and available at all times during the tournament. 

 

Tentative Schedule: 

Wave A: CX, PF, Value Debate, Impromptu

Wave B: LD, Creative Storytelling, Mixed Extemp

Asynchronous: HI, DI, OO, INF, Duo, PI, POI 

** Doubling is not allowed within waves but encouraged across waves. Students cannot double in CX and LD. Students may enter up to three asynchronous events.

Registration: 7 - 7:30am

Judge Check-in: 7-7:30am

Judge Overview: 7:30am - 8:00am

Asynchronous events will run ASAP as judges are available

 

Wave A Round 1: 8am (out by 8:30am)

Wave B Round 1: 9:45am (Draw at 9:30am)

 

Wave A Round 2: 11:00am

Wave B Round 2: 12:30pm (Draw at 12:15pm)

 

Wave A Round 3: 2:00pm

Wave B Round 3: 3:30pm 

 

Finals: 5:30pm

Awards: 6:30pm

 

Recordings:

  • Publicly viewable video URLs for all asynchronous events must be added to Tabroom.com by Friday, January 15th at 5 pm.

  • We will send reminders about missing links but coaches/school are responsible for checking all links are viewable.

  • Duo must be recorded split screen.

  • Please follow all CHSAA rules on recording. 

 

Pre-Registration: Pre-registration will be on Tabroom.com. All numbers will be considered final on January 13th at 5pm. Drops after this may be made online but will not reduce fees. 

 

Fees: Entry fees will be $8 per asynchronous competitor; $10 per competitor for live events. Checks should be made payable to Fairview High School c/o Speech and Debate Team. 

 

Judging: Each school is responsible for providing judges to cover their entries. Judges must be available for the three preliminary rounds and the final round. One judge must be provided for every two debate entries. This helps us ensure we can single flight rounds. One judge must be provided for every 6 events entries. Judges must be entered in Tabroom by January 13th @ 5pm, final updates by January 15th @ 5pm. Judges are responsible for checking for ballots at the appropriate times. 

 

Tabulation: 

  • All debate rounds will be powered.

  • All undefeated debaters will break to finals, subject to judge availability. (Note: we will evaluate adding semi-finals as entries and judges allow.)

  • Places will be determined by win-loss, strength of opp, and speaker points.

  • Team awards will be determined by percentage of entries breaking to a finals round, not total numbers

 

Day of Event: All schools must check-in online by 7:30am. All dropped entries must be made online or reviewed with Tab by 7:30am. We will send additional details the week of the tournament.
