2020 Ivy Street Round Robin

2020 — Atlanta, GA/US

Hi, everyone,

1) I am excited to announce the field for the 5th Annual Ivy Street Round Robin:
  • Brentwood (TN) -- Parker Kasiewicz & Ashwath Nayagadurai
  • Charlotte Latin (NC) -- Sarah Picciola & Zoe Spicer
  • Duchesne Academy (TX) -- Brooke Blanton & Sylvia Duarte
  • Fairmont Prep (CA) -- Numair Razzak & Martand Bhagavatula
  • Marist School (GA) -- Will Sjostrom & Sophie Verska
  • North Broward Prep (FL) -- Tyler Brown & Tyler Katz
  • Poly Prep Country Day (NY) -- Claudia Leduc & Abigail Meyer
  • St. Mary's Hall (TX) -- JD Walls & Tori Menendez
  • Vestavia Hills (AL) -- Maya Bridgwaters & Alex Stern
2) BFHS Entry – It is expected, although not required, for teams to also participate in the Barkley Forum for High Schools tournament at Emory.  If your team is waitlisted as a result of being a non-member, please let me know and I can talk with Kara at Emory to get you off the waitlist.

3) Check your tabroom entry - almost everything is due by January 10th.

-- Please ensure your judge is entered.   We do enforce an entourage rule at the round robin for anyone who you have attending that is a qualified judge.  If you have more than one experienced judge attending, you're invited to split the round obligation (4 rounds) or simply volunteer an extra round.    Our goal is that every team will have a unique set of 16 judges throughout their rounds of competition at the round robin.  Please enter these judges by Friday January 10th to help me to be able to secure enough hired judging for the round robin.  If your judge is not entered by the 10th, you will be charged for a hired judge.

-- Please ensure the right number of people are registered in your party.  The default setting is 3 people - two students and one coach.  If you have additional members in your party, we do charge an additional $40/person - this helps us cover the meals for them.

-- Please select T-Shirt sizes for the Round Robin swag.  Every team is entitled to three t shirts (two student and one for the coach).  If you would like additional t-shirts, simply order them and I will add the charge to your fees - they will be at the cost I pay which is usually $7-$12.  I am placing this order on January 10th, so please get these in.

-- Please download and return via email or upload on the tabroom the audio recording form.  We will once again be recording every debate and giving each team a copy of the recording upon completion of the round robin.  In order to do this, we will need every student to complete a permission to record form.  You can email me these, submit them on tabroom, or bring with you later in January.     These recordings will only be published if BOTH teams consent to their publish.

4) If you would like to mail your fees early – please just use the address below to help ensure I receive your payment.

Marist School
ATTN Jeffrey Miller
3790 Ashford Dunwoody Road
Atlanta, GA 30319

I will update tabroom when checks are received.

5) Hotel/Lodging -- While there is no official tournament hotel, there are a slew of tournaments within a five minute drive from Marist.   Marist is about 15 minutes from the Emory tournament hotel though and I know they have an extended block that runs through the Round Robin.  The Marriott Century Center (Emory Tournament Hotel) throughout the week has the same rates as you would for the weekend and won’t have to move hotels.  If you need guidance on where to stay near Marist, please let me know.

6) Food - You will have ample food while at the Round Robin.  We will provide dinner both nights, and then breakfast and lunch on Thursday.  We will have snacks and an assortment of beverages throughout the round robin.   We will send out a meal order form in January so you can choose what you'd like for each meal to accommodate any dietary preferences.

7) Ivy Street Social -- As in past years, you are invited to the Ivy Street Social on Wednesday night following competition.  We will be holding a fun activity for coaches and competitors.  I am finalizing the plans and will send final details out closer to the Round Robin.

A finalized schedule for the round robin will be posted by January 10th once the Social is finalized.  The core details have not and will not change - the start time on Wednesday is 3pm with the first debate beginning at 4pm.

Please do not hesitate to email with any questions - the entire Marist debate team is looking forward to hosting you later this month!
