Spontaneous Argumentation

Abbreviation Spar
Format Speech
Entry Fee $4.00
Entry 1 competitors per entry

Event Description:

In a Spar argument, competitors debate one-on-one about a topic that can vary from "Purple is the best color" or "Violent Video Game Bans". In a Spar round the competitors are given a list of topics, a coin is then tossed and the winner gets to choose the topic, while the loser gets to choose Aff (Affirmative or for the topic) or Neg (Negative or against the topic).  Each round will consist of One round of silly topics (Pancakes are better than waffles style), next round of current event questions, and a round of teen issues (parents should not be allowed to coach their children's sports teams).

The Aff gets one minute to think up a three minute speech, trying to use up as much time as possible without being too repetitive, so now the Aff has given his constructive speech. Then the Neg has up to one minute to prepare his, the time is the same, and the goal is the same, convince your judge that you are the better speaker and have a more convincing argument. After both speakers have given their speeches they both stand up, no prep time, and ask each other question in a "Cross-Fire" which differs from a Cross-examination in that both ask questions. Then, without any prep time, Aff gives a one minute rebuttal, Neg gives a two minute rebuttal, then the Aff finishes up with a one minute rebuttal.
