Event Description:
FredFlash is a NEW format for Impromptu Debate, created at FredFest 2018, that allows competitors the opportunity to debate head-to-head, in a quick, lively round, on topics that require no advanced preparation and are accessible even to “non debaters” and “first time" judges. Rounds are over in a flash – less than 20 minutes!
Round overview:
Debaters should decide who will be AFF, who will be NEG (by whatever method they choose -- rock/paper/scissors, arm wrestling, paper balls into the recycling bin, jumping jacks, odds or evens, best frog imitation…whatever) BEFORE they are told the topic.
AFTER sides have been determined, topic should be drawn by Judge and announced to students (or written on board.) After 5 minutes of prep time, the debate begins with the following speech order:
2 min AFF
1 min CX
2 min NEG
1 min CX
2 min AFF rebuttal
2 min NEG rebuttal
** Students will each have 2 minutes of prep time to use as they wish during the round
