Tournament Information:

Any middle school student is welcome to compete. High school students with one year or less of speech & debate experience may compete. We are placing an entry cap of 4 teams per event. Additional entries will be waitlisted and taken off if space is available. Formal dress is encouraged, but certainly not required. Awards will be given to those with undefeated records, as well as to top speakers in each event.

Tentative Schedule:

Registration: 3:00 PM-4:00 PM

You must register in person regardless of whether you have paid your registration fees in advance. The adult chaperone must register and pay any necessary fees at tab (location TBA), while competitors are to remain in Cougar Hall.

Round 1 Postings/Parli Prep Begins: 4:00am

Round 1: 4:20 PM - 5:20 PM

Round 2 Postings/Parli Prep Begins: 5:30 PM

Round 2: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Dinner: 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Round 3 Posting/Parli Prep Begins: 7:40 PM

Round 3: 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Awards: 9:00 PM - 9:30 PM

This schedule is TENTATIVE and subject to change.

Judging:

Debate: ONE judge for every TWO entries or fraction thereof.

Speech: ONE judge for every FOUR entries or fraction thereof.

It will be nearly impossible for us to hire judges to cover your judging commitment. If you are absolutely unable to provide judges, please email evhs.sd@gmail.com and we will try to accommodate you.

Food:

Students may bring their own dinner, or may purchase a meal ticket for $8. Food for chaperones and judges will be provided at no cost.

In the 'Memo' section, please write "EV Novite - [Your School Name]."

Mail the checks to PO Box 731350 San Jose, CA 95173.

All entry/judge fees should be received (NOT postmarked) by 9/19.

Nuisance fines can be paid during on-campus registration on 9/19. If your check cannot arrive by mail by 9/20, please do not mail it, and instead bring it to the on-site registration.

Drops:

Drops made after September 12th will be assessed a $20.00 drop fee, including drops made at registration.
