Upload Speech Tournament Videos to Youtube

These directions are written for uploading on a Windows-based computer, with a video already recorded and saved in a standard format.

You need a gmail account.  You can use an existing one, or create a new one for uploading your videos.

  1. Go to youtube.com, and make sure you are logged into your gmail account.

  2. Click on the camera icon in the upper right corner, followed by “Upload video.”

  3. You will be prompted for your video file.  Drag it onto the arrow, or click “Select File” and navigate to where your video file is stored on your computer.  Click “Open.”

  4. The video is now being uploaded, and it could take an hour or more to be fully uploaded.  During this time your internet service throughout your home will likely be very sluggish.

  5. You’re next prompted for details.  Change the “Title” box, enter information in this format: Category, Student Name.  For example, Oratory, Katherine Walsh; or  Poetry, Diamanda Galas.  Do not include school name or piece titles here.

  6. In the “Description” box, enter one of the following:

    1. Interp/acting categories: Title of the piece, or if a program, title or theme

    2. Speeches: Topic or title

    3. Do not enter school name, coach name or any other identifying information here.

  7. Scroll down and make sure these settings are selected: “Yes, it's made for kids” and “No, don’t restrict my videos to viewers over 18 only.”  These will make it less likely for ads to play before your video.

  8. Click “Next,” and do not change anything under Video elements. Click “Next.”

  9. Under Visibility, Save or publish, make certain you select “Unlisted.” Do not use Public or Private.  Click “SAVE.”

  10. Now you should see a screen titled “Channel videos.”  If you move your cursor over the video being uploaded, choices appear.  Click on the pencil icon to edit Details.

  11. In Video details, click “More options,” then insure that all of these settings are exactly as follows:

    1. License: Standard YouTube License
