Carolina East District Qualifier

for the 2020 National Tournament

Chaperone & Supervision Policy

In order to ensure that each student has proper and legal supervision, the Tarheel East District Committee has decided to create the following chaperone policy that will be endorsed at every portion of the Tarheel East District Tournament series (Congress, IE/Debate, Big Questions):

1) A school-approved adult must accompany students to the tournament and remain on site for the entire competition. "School-approved adult" is the lead contact on the NSDA District Info page.  The expectation is that contact is a school employee, entrusted by the Administration to serve as the chief decision maker for students. 

2) If the school-approved adult is NOT the coach of record on the District Info page, a letter signed by the school principal and printed on school stationary MUST be presented at each registration.  The letter needs to specifically name the adult-in-charge.  T

3) he penalty for failing to bring this letter when it is required is disqualification of all contestants from the school involved. 

4) Coaches must remain onsite during competition until all students from their team leave.

We will not be entertaining questions from "word smiths". Our intent is clear, and the spirit of this rule will be enforced, even if you find a creative interpretation of the letter of this rule.
