WESTMINSTER

2019 — Atlanta, GA/US

Divisions and Eligibility

VARSITY:

The Varsity division will be a qualifier for the Tournament of Champions at finals.  This division will have ten minutes prep.

Please see the below section regarding JV eligibility to help guide your decisions about where to place your non-novice debaters.

JV:

Competitors in the JV division must be high school students (or younger) enrolled at the school for whom they are registered.

In keeping with the spirit of our event and the goal of providing as many students as possible with as many high quality debates as possible, we are hoping the open eligibility for this division will create 1) a competitive JV division for students who are seeking challenging debates but may not have quite the skill or experience level to succeed in a difficult varsity field, and 2) a challenging varsity field.

NOVICE:

Novice debaters should be in their first year of high school competition and debating their first topic at the high school level.  Evidence is tentatively limited to the Georgia Novice Packet, found here, subject to possible changes and additions reached by consensus of coaches with students in the Novice division.

WESTMINSTER STUDENTS COMPETING:

Westminster students will compete.  They will be eligible to debate in elimination rounds but they will not be eligible for speaker awards.
