Trinity Parliamentary Debate Invitational

New York Parliamentary Debate League

Dear Parliamentary Debate Leader,

On behalf of the New York Parliamentary Debate League, we invite you and your debate team to the Trinity School Parliamentary Debate Invitational on September 27th-28th, 2019.

The New York Parliamentary Debate League was founded two years ago as a student-run organization dedicated to fostering open and respectful discourse concerning modern day issues in the parliamentary debate style. For more information, please visit our website: nyparli.org.

You can register for this tournament at http://trinity.tabroom.com

Registration will occur on a first-come-first-served basis.

Rules

This tournament will be held in the format established by the American Parliamentary Debate Association (APDA). We will release three resolutions 15 minutes prior to the start of each round. The resolution and side will be determined by a coin toss, as at the Yale Invitational and Columbia Invitational, consistent with the APDA style.

Please note that although this tournament has debaters register in a single open division, we may break to separate novice and varsity outrounds.

Schedule

Please note that the schedule is subject to change. We urge all teams to watch outrounds, and stay for awards.

Tournament Specifics

Location:
Trinity School is located at 139 West 91st Street.

Team Size:

Teams may be one or two debaters, but a team made up of a single debater still costs the full team entry fee. The tournament is capped at 38 teams.

Food:
Pizza will be provided for all judges and debaters on Saturday.

Judging Obligations:

Each team is required to bring in 1 judge for every two teams, rounded unfavorably (If you are bringing an odd number of teams, the last team will require their own judge). Teams are required to have their judges available for the entire day. If this is an issue, please contact us. While experienced judges are prefered, judge training will be available. Also contact Claire Marchand if you are interested in being a hired judge.

Costs:

The entry fee $50 per team. Checks should be payable to the Trinity School with “parliamentary debate” in the memo field. Please bring the check to the tournament on Friday. If you have concerns about the entry fee, please let us know. We’d like to accommodate all debaters.

We look forward to seeing you there!
