New York City Invitational Debate and Speech Tournament

2019 — Bronx, New York, NY/US

Registration and Fees

Registration

Registration will open on August 1, 2019 at 12 Noon NY time.  All entries will be placed automatically on a wait list.  On or about September 1 we will begin accepting entries, fairly distributing the available slots. Additional entries will be accepted off the waitlist as they become available. We expect slots to fill up quickly so plan to register early to ensure entry into the tournament.

For all Policy, Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum, check-in will begin at Bronx Science on Friday, October 18th at 12 Noon NY time on the stage in the Morris Meister Auditorium.  For schools with just Speech and Congress entries, check-in will continue at PS/MS 95 beginning at 8:00 am on Saturday. For Speech, check-in will be available in person or by phone by 5pm on Friday.  Even though Congress does not begin until Saturday, a school may check-in Friday at Bronx Science.   Friday check-in for Policy, Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum ends by 2:30 pm and failure to check-in before that time may result in an entry not being scheduled for Round 1.  More information on check-in will come via email.

Student Eligibility

Each student entered at the tournament must represent such student's currently enrolled high school.  Independent entries that satisfy specific requirements (posted separately on the website) will be considered. In Policy Debate, Public Forum Debate and Duo Interpretation, a valid entry is comprised of two student team members both of whom are currently enrolled at the same high school.  Each school must designate one adult moderator who must be present for the duration of the tournament and who will be responsible for any issues related to the school's entries. The tournament may require supporting documentation verifying all of these items.

Fee Assessment

All accepted entries will be set by 9:00 pm NY time on October 7, 2019 and schools with accepted entries are assessed final fees at that time.  Any entry drops after this date will not reduce the assessed final fees, even if a school drops all of its entries. Thereafter, entries accepted off the waitlist cannot be dropped without an assessment.

Schools may continue to make online student name changes, without penalty, until 9:00 am NY time on October 17, 2019.  Given the size of the tournament, we encourage all schools to finalize changes prior to this time.  Changes thereafter may be made only in person at check-in on Friday (or Saturday, for Congress and Speech entries).  All student entry changes, including drops, after the time noted above will result in an assessment of $30 per change which must be paid by the school before the school's full entry will be accepted into the tournament.

Payment

Final fees (including all assessments) must be paid in full before the commencement of the tournament.  Any school failing to pay the assessed fees in full before the deadline will not be permitted to compete.  Final fees are payable regardless of attendance (drops or otherwise) at the tournament.  Fees in arrears from previous years will be noted on the invoices and must be paid in full prior to acceptance of entries into the tournament.

Schools may pay via credit card.  Schools paying their entire fee via credit card will have their school fee waived. Unfortunately, we cannot waive the school fee for schools only paying part of their fee via credit card. WE CANNOT ACCEPT CASH.

Credit card link - See page "Credit Card Information".

Schools can pay via check made payable to The Bronx High School of Science Alumni Foundation, Inc. Please write Big Bronx in the memo line.  The tournament cannot waive the school fee for schools paying via check. Checks can be mailed to (and must be received prior to the commencement of the tournament):
