SCU Spring Philalethic Invitational

Event Rules

The SCU Spring Philalethic Invitational will use the following rules for speech and debate events. 

The following speech events will follow CHSSA event rules

-HI

-DI

-DUO

-TI

-Expos

-OPP

-OI

-Impromptu

 

The following events will follow CHSSA rules but with the noted exceptions

-OO – This event will include both OO and OA

-Extemp – This event will include both NX and IX. Internet will be allowed in prep.

 

The following events will follow NSDA event rules with the exception that internet use will be allowed in round. Internet use in round cannot be used for outside communication with any persons outside of the round, ie debaters are not allowed to communicate with coaches or other teammates during rounds. Partner communication via internet is allowed. 

-LD – using March topic

-Policy

 

PF (using March topic) will follow NSDA event rules with the exception that in all prelim rounds sides will be set by tabroom, and aff will always speak first. In elim rounds, coin flips will determine sides for rounds that are not sidelocked. Aff will still speak first.

 

Parliamentary debate will follow NPDA rules and guidelines, with the exception that speech times will be 7-7-7-7-5-5, with no flex time. NPDA allows the use of internet in prep, but not in round. Coach and team prep are also allowed. We will not have announced topic areas. Topics were written by SCU debaters, former high school debaters, and tournament staff.
