Tournament Information

ONLINE REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR ALL ENTRIES IS 5 PM – MARCH 5TH, 2018

Participation Requirements

· All participants are required to have competed in three (3) UDL sponsored tournaments during the 2017-2018 debate season to compete (NOTE: If a team has competed in two (2) tournaments, the City Championship can count as their third tournament) THE CONGRESSIONAL DEBATE DIVISON IS AN EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE.

· Students must have submitted their NYCUDL consent form.

· All students competing in the City Championship MUST be representing their ENROLLED MIDDLE SCHOOL located in one of the five boroughs in New York City (Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn or Staten Island). NO INDEPENDENT ENTRIES ARE ALLOWED.

· All teams/schools are REQUIRED to attend both days of the tournament until the end of the preliminary debates or when the team is eliminated from the tournament. Teams/schools are not allowed to attend only 1 day of the tournament.

· If a school registered for the tournament and does not provide teams on the registration, the registration will be considered incomplete and will not be accepted, therefore making the school ineligible to compete. This rule applies to the judge requirement.

Qualifications for Novice and Open in Public Forum Debate and Parliamentary Debate

A student MUST enter in the Open division for Public Forum or Parliamentary Debate if:

1. The student has competed in a previous season of debate (in or outside of the NYC Urban Debate League).

2. If the student wishes to compete in Open.

A student MUST enter in the Novice division for Public Forum or Parliamentary Debate if:

1. All members of the team are first-year debaters.

2. A student competed in at most one (1) tournament in a previous season.

Students MAY NOT double enter in multiple events.

THE TOURNAMENT HAS THE RIGHT TO REJECT TEAMS/SCHOOLS FROM COMPETING IF THEY DO NOT MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS.
