Prose and Poetry have a FIVE minute time limit (30 second grace period).

The rules for Spontaneous Speaking are as follows:
  • Spontaneous is an IN-ROOM draw event.
  • Topics will cover contemporary issues.
  • A student will draw three topics 3 minutes prior to their speaking, chose one and return the other 2.  They will then have 3-minutes of prep.  They will then have 5 minutes to speak on the topic.
  • No research materials may be used in preparation.
All speech events will have three preliminary rounds and will break to semifinals (though we reserve the right to break to finals in events with a smaller number of entries).
