Walled Lake Western Warrior Tournament

2026 — Walled Lake, MI/US

Greetings

Welcome to the 21st Annual Walled Lake Western Warrior Tournament!

WLW will be using electronic devices using Tabroom to critique and judge. We ask that judges bring a device as we have VERY few Chromebooks to lend out.

March 21, 2026

Events: All MIFA events, including 9/10 Oratory and 9/10 Prose, will be offered.

Impromptu: Dichotomy

Examples: "I know not what course others may take: but as for me, give me liberty or give me death." — Patrick Henry “What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”― John Steinbeck Resolved: Intolerance will no longer be tolerated.

Extemporaneous: Domestic, International, Economics, Potpourri

Duo Commentary Themes: Decisions, Decisions.

Students will be faced with a set of prompts that will either require them to either providec commentary on a decision that someone else has made OR make a decision themselves on a current issue. In order to better prepare, students can refer to the chart below to see the specific focus for each round. Descriptions and/or examples have been provided for clarification.

Round Theme Description/Example
Round 1 Supreme Court Cases All had a major impact on Americans. Could be old or new.
Round 2 Keep or Toss: YOU decide Example: Day Light Savings time
Round 3 Thatwas a choice...(flops, flubs, and whoopsies) Example: Dismantling the Department of Education
Semi Round Taking a Stand Individuals who spoke out or did something about an issue. Example: Colin Kaepernick
Final Round This or That: YOU decide Example: Homework OR No Homework

Parking:There is limited parking available in the NORTH PARKING LOT. We ask that all buses and overflow parking use the south parking lot (the lot closest to Pontiac Trail).

The vast majority of the tournament will happen in the new building. The fastest, easiest access to the new building is from the north parking lot.

Judges: You must supply one qualified judge for each 5 individuals or fraction thereof. Duo, Duo Commentary, and Multiple count as two contestants. A qualified judge is one that is a high school graduate with at least two years experience in competition and who knows how to fill out a ballot and give educational critiques using Tabroom. You do not have to be certified to judge at this tournament. Teams whose judges fail to show up for rounds will be charged a $25.00 missed round fee to be collected on the day of the tournament.

I will have a few judges available for hire at the cost of $125 for the day. Please let me know that you need to hire a judge as soon as possible so that I can secure these judges for you.

Food: There will be NO TIME to leave the building to eat. We will supply a nutritious and relatively tasty assortment of food. We will have breakfast foods before the first round, lunch during the day and goodies. All proceeds from food sales will go to WLW’s forensics team’s budget so that we can attend tournaments. So, THANKS for your support!

Coffee: Will be provided for judges in the judges' lounge

Fees: There is a base registration fee of $20 per school. The basic fee will be $10.00 per individual entry. Duos and Duo Commentaries are $20.00, and Multiples will be $30.00 each. Drop and Add fees will be $15.00 per drop or add after the registration deadline date.

Thus, a person that you originally registered in Prose who then drops from Prose and adds to Poetry on the day of the tournament will cost you the original registration fee of $10.00 plus the $15.00 drop fee and then an additional $10.00 add fee. Adds will only be allowed if they fit within the schematic structure.

It is the expectation that all schools (teams) will be paid in full prior to the start of the tournament. If you have an issue, please contact the tournament director prior to the tournament.
