MS Prepared Motions - Spring 2023

We will use the following prepared motions for WS Debate at our events in the second semester. We will be working on these at the January workshop as well.

• This House prefers rehabilitation to retribution in the US criminal justice system.

• This House believes that creating new lead characters for minorities in film and television (e.g. Black Panther, Shang-Chi, and Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) is preferable to recasting them in existing roles (e.g. Ghostbusters, The Little Mermaid).

• This House supports mandatory voting in national elections in the United States.

**FOR SCHOOLS WITH BOTH MS AND HS STUDENTS - PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MS CULTURE MOTION IS SIMILAR BUT SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN THE HS VERSION

February 25 - MS Tournament 4 - we will have 2 rounds on rehabilitation/retribution and 2 impromptu rounds

March 25 - MS Tournament 5 - we will have 2 rounds on the film/television motion and 2 impromptu rounds

May 6 - MS City Championship (prelims and elims) - we will have 2 rounds on mandatory elections and 1 round on rehabilitation/retribution. There will be 2 impromptu rounds - a prelim round and semis. Finals will be the film/television motion. Sides will be determined by a coin flip.
