The Bulldog Invitational will host the following events:

Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Novice and Varsity divisions of Lincoln-Douglas debate will be offered, all NSDA rules and time limits will be followed.  Novice and Varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate will have five (5) rounds of debate followed by outrounds, as needed. 

Lincoln-Douglas debate will use the November/December LD topic.  The topic is:

Resolved: The People’s Republic of China ought to prioritize environmental protection over economic growth.

NOTE: If entry numbers are low, we will discuss the matter with coaches of the programs registered and make any adjustments necessary to ensure the tournament can function.  This may include combining divisions or cancelling divisions – but your input will be sought before any decisions are made. 

Policy Debate

Novice and Varsity divisions of Policy debate will be offered, all NSDA rules and time limits will be followed.  Policy Debate will have four (4) rounds of debate followed by outrounds, as needed.  

Policy debate will use the 2022 – 2023 NSDA topic.  The topic is:

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity.

NOTE: If entry numbers are low, we will discuss the matter with coaches of the programs registered and make any adjustments necessary to ensure the tournament can function.  This may include combining divisions or cancelling divisions – but your input will be sought before any decisions are made. 

Public Forum Debate

Novice and Varsity divisions of Public Forum debate will be offered, all NSDA rules and time limits will be followed.  Novice and Varsity Public Forum debate will have five (5) rounds of debate followed by outrounds, as needed.  

Public Forum debate will use the November/December PF topic.  The topic is:

Resolved: The United States’ strategy of Great Power Competition produces more benefits than harms. 

NOTE: If entry numbers are low, we will discuss the matter with coaches of the programs registered and make any adjustments necessary to ensure the tournament can function.  This may include combining divisions or cancelling divisions – but your input will be sought before any decisions are made. 

Individual Events

Eight (8) events will be offered this year: 

 

ü  Dramatic Interpretation

ü  Duo Interpretation

ü  Extemporaneous Speaking

ü  Humorous Interpretation

ü  Informative Speaking

ü  Original Oratory

ü  Program Oral Interpretation

ü  Spontaneous Speaking

All NSDA rules and time limits will be followed.  Students may single or double enter in any of the IE events; each entry will be charged as a separate entry.  There will be four (4) rounds before breaking to finals.  NOTE: Individual events are offered Saturday only.  Teams bringing students for both days of competition can enter their IE students in the Friday only Congress, if desired. 

Student Congress

All NSDA rules and time limits will apply to Student Congress.  Presiding Officers will not be eligible for speaking awards, although they will receive a gavel for presiding.  Each school may submit a maximum of two (2) pieces of legislation.  Bettendorf also strongly suggests that each school submits a minimum of one piece of legislation.  All legislation needs to be received by Thursday, November 3rd, 2022.  Legislation should be uploaded on the Tabroom registration site.  If you are having issues, please contact Mr. Rankin at Impulse411@hotmail.com.  Legislative packets will then be posted on Tabroom by Monday, November 7th.  The docket will be set at that point and sent out to schools.  NOTE:  Congress will be offered Friday only.  Students participating in both days of competition are encouraged to enter in the Individual Events for Saturday.
