Debate Events

Public Forum and Congress

Public Forum Topic – Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States.

Congress Resolutions – Are attached to this email.

We will have two levels of Congress debate. Congress will be for new/beginning students to debate and Senate will be for students who have previous debate experience or students who are currently in grade 8. Please email in advance with a list of new students for congress debate to frailb@nv.ccsd.net or they will be placed into the senate rounds. We want to encourage students to participate in congress, but sometimes students new to debate become overwhelmed when debating against students with experience.

Each session of Congress will last for 1 hour and 30 minutes.  We will be following regular parliamentary procedure which allows for a 3 minute speech and then questions from the floor.  We will be using motions to begin and suspend debate from the floor, etc.

If a student is registered for Public Forum debate and their partner does not show up they may switch to Student Congress on the day of the event.

IE and Debate events pairings are randomized by the computer tabulation program.
