Impromptu: Students will enter the competition room. When it is their turn to speak, they will draw 3 topics from the judge and pick their favorite. Once they make their selection, they will have 7 minutes to make up a speech in their head and deliver it. We coach to use 3 minutes to think about your speech and 4 minutes to speak it. No note cards are allowed or any writing materials. All speeches are made up in the competitors head and then spoken.

Soapbox: 5 minute time limit. No Grace Period. Competitors are encouraged to have a speech ready to go before the tournament. The purpose of soapbox is to rant about something that bothers or aggravates the competitor...to get up on their "soapbox".

Solo Act: 10 minute time limit. No Grace Period. This event is just a combined round of HI and DI. Same rules apply to this event. Competitors are to have a piece memorized and rehearsed to perform in front of the judge. The piece can be either humorous or dramatic or both. The purpose of the round is to "act" out the scene.

Original Oratory: 10 minute time limit, No Grace Period. OO is a memorized, rehearsed and original speech written by the competitor and delivered to a judge. The main idea of an original oratory is to persuade.  No visual aides are required for this speech like they are in Informative Speaking.
