Senior State Debate and Speech Tournaments

Logistics Packet

Because of the changes in buildings resulting from the demolition of the Student Center and the loss of Gatton College, please follow this guide to getting around UK for the Senior State tournaments.  If you are a Junior division coach, details will change (although some similarities between the two will remain), and the Junior State Logistics packet will be out around 16 March.

Please print this packet for your judges and students.

Because of the changes in our locations, the steps for each day are detailed specifically, at the risk of repetition.  Please follow the particular day’s Logistics Dance Card!  Your competitors and judges should read, mark, and inwardly digest this information—it is intended to keep the tournaments running on time.

COMMONS IS HOME BASE FOR KHSSL ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.  WE WILL BE BASED IN BOWMAN’S DEN AND FUNKHOUSER ON SATURDAY.

The Google Map is found at http://bit.ly/1TUTDKt.  To see what location an icon represents, left click on it.  To get directions to a location, right click on the icon.

Please also refer to the Master Tournament map on the league website.

Food for judges and competitors will mainly be at The 90 and Bowman’s Den.

When you see Parking “Structure 7” you should think both “convenient” and “may have limited space”.  Structure 5, although on the far side of campus from Commons, has many more spaces.

The 90 has reusable to-go trays available for $5, or you may eat there.

I recommend that everyone wear comfortable shoes for walking.  I’m working to reduce the footprint of this tournament, but it will be big regardless.  Competitors may change shoes on reaching competition rooms.

JUDGES AND COMPETITORS:  DO NOT GO OFF CAMPUS FOR FOOD DURING THE TOURNAMENT.  MISSING JUDGES SLOW THE TOURNAMENT DOWN AND MISSING COMPETITORS WILL BE SUBJECT TO FORFEITS.

BUSES:

After drop off on each day, buses can either return to hotels OR

Wait at the Purple Lot off Wildcat Court, as marked on the Google Map.  There’s no shuttle from that lot.

ARRIVAL

·         If you are coming by BUS:

Drop off is on Sports Center Drive, behind the Commons.  To get to this location, find directions from your school/hotel to the Google Map’s Bus Icon at “Cooper Drive and Sports Center Drive”.  Then head in on Sports Center Drive to the intersection with Complex Drive.  Near there you will be able to unload from the bus and walk down to Commons.  Buses should then depart.

If you are coming by CAR:
