Extemporaneous Debate at the Hurricane

Extemporaneous Debate:

·        Extemp Debate is a fast-paced, quick look at a topic.  We will do three rounds—three different resolutions—in about an hour.

·        This is a supplemental event offered at the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament.  The Hurricane Tournament is the only one we do during the year that offers this event.

·        At the national tournament, resolutions are released 30 minutes before the round.  Because of our schedule and because it is early in the year--especially for new debaters—the resolution for two of the rounds were released earlier this month.

·        JUDGES—you will have one piece of paper with three ballots on it.  Your job is simply to circle the winner and assign speaker points (scale of 25-30—how well did they speak).  Do NOT write any reason for decision and do not tell the debaters who won!

Resolutions for the 2021 Hurricane Debate Tournament

Round 1: WILL BE ANNOUNCED 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE ROUND

Round 2: The United States has taken the right steps to prevent another Sept. 11-style attack.

Round 3: Movie theaters will be obsolete in less than ten years.
