The Maverick

2021 — Mesa, AZ/US

Important Info

Congressional Legislation is due September 16th at noon, so the official docket can be released the following day. This will give competitors two weeks to prepare speeches. Legislation can be turned in on this website under your registration. There is a tab for Legislation.

Original Spoken Word Poetry makes its Arizona debut. Make sure to look at the rules under the event tab to ensure your students prep correctly. We will be following the ASDCA rules for this event, not the rules you saw at Nationals online over the summer.

Radio Broadcast is back! This event is a blast and circuit favorite. Make sure to look at the rules under the event tab to ensure your students prep correctly.

Poetry and Prose numbers have been very small the last couple of years, so they will be combined into one category. Last year we had to do this and it worked out fine.

Policy Debate will run three rounds on Friday night, so competitors can join the Saturday morning events. Big Questions will be offered and competitors and judges are required to fill out a small survey during the tournament.

Students will be able to enter Congress, one debate event and three speech events. Extemp and Radio Broadcast competitors may be limited to two speech events, because of time constraints.

We'll also have a special treat for the top competitor of the tournament who will be dubbed The Maverick! The last two years Brophy competitors have held the title of The Maverick and are looking to repeat.

Good luck to all! Email the tournament director at marco.dominguez@gilbertschools.net if you have any questions.
