Middle School Congress & BQ

Middle School Big Questions Debate (Saturday)

We are excited to continue offering middle school Big Questions Debate.

Here is what you need to know:

  • It is open to any student in grades 5 - 8 as long as they are accompanied by a coach (or parent/adult judge with the school's permission)
  • There will be a separate division of Big Questions for HS, and a separate division of Big Questions for MS.  Students will compete in the division of their grade level.  You will not be allowed to compete in the HS division, and HS students will not be allowed to compete in the MS division.
  • Due to time contraints, a students will only be allowed to compete in EITHER Big Questions Debate or Congressional Debate. With a one day tournament, it will not be possible to do both.
  • All competitors, observers, and judges are required to fill in a survey for the NSDA at the conclusion of the 3rd Prelim Round.

Middle School Congress (Saturday)

Once again we will be offering a Middle School Congress!

Here is what you need to know:

  • It is open to any student in grades 5 - 8 as long as they are accompanied by a coach (or parent/adult judge with the school's permission)
  • The entire House/Chamber will be only Middle School students (grades 5th-8th).
  • Some short high school students may try to sneak in.  I will be on the lookout.
  • There will be multiple houses based on entries (in the past we have 2-3 chambers, with around 20 members each).
  • They do not need to submit bills or resolutions (but can if you want to, see deadlines on the other tabs). We will use the High School Docket for prelims and a separate docket for finals.
  • Download the files on the Downloads tab so your students understand how it works.
  • Middle School judges may end up as judges in the High School houses, and vice versa.
  • The PARLIAMENTARIAN for the house will act as PRESIDING OFFICER for the house (no student PO for MS)
  • The Parli will help students keep the house running and be there to answer any questions.
  • Top 3 speakers in finals will receive awards.
  • There will be 2 prelim sessions (and a MS Finals session as long as we have 2 or more prelim chambers, otherwise awards will just go to the top three students in the middle school house if there is only one chamber of middle school).  MS Finals will take place in the Choir Room (102).
  • Watch this website for updates.
