Individual Events
Individual Events
All Individual Events will be hosted in person at Grapevine High School. We are following the updates on the delta variant and infection rate. Should we need to move to a virtual setting, we will notify schools with at least two weeks' notice and will have students compete synchronously using the same tournament schedule.
Tournament Schedule: Saturday, September 11, 2021
Rounds will be accelerated when possible.
We will be offering: Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Duet Acting, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Program of Oral Interpretation, Prose, Poetry, Novice Oral Interpretation, International Extemp, Domestic Extemp, and Novice Extemp.
Novice Oral Interpretation: Students new to Speech and Debate with one year or less of Interp experience may compete in Novice Oral Interpretation. Regardless of entry size, we will host this event with the intention to provide students with feedback from exceptional coaches and judges to help them gain confidence in competing. There will be three preliminary rounds. The third round will take place during the semifinal round. If there are more than 10 entries, we will add a fourth finals or “showcase” round. If there are more than 24 entries, the third round will become a semifinal round.
Novice Extemp: Students new to Speech and Debate with one year or less of Extemp experience may compete in Novice Extemp. All Individual Events will be following the rules laid out in the TFA Constitution found here: TXFA Constitution
Section Breakdown of Events:
Students who cross enter do so at their own risk. It is their responsibility to make it to their rounds on time. Judges will be informed of cross entry on the ballot but if a student fails to appear within 15 minutes of the final speaker, they may "no show" the student.
