Bellarmine Spring Rhetoric Debate Tournament

Procedure for Debate Time Conflicts

Students and Judges,

We understand that we have scheduled rounds after school and that there may be conflicts with other after school activities (e.g., swim practice, play rehearsal, game, etc.). If you do have a conflict with the round scheduled after school, it is YOUR responsibility to reach out to your opponent AND your judge(s) to reschedule and hold that debate within 30 hours after the posted start time for the original round. Forgetting to reschedule a debate or forgetting to alert your opponent and judge that you need to reschedule a debate due to your conflict will result in a forfeit (loss and a grade of 30/50 points). In other words, a debate must be held by 8:15 PM on the following day after the round for it to not count as a forfeit.

Here are the steps you will need to take to reschedule a round:

1. Reach out to BOTH your judge and your opponent via Teams/Slack/email and decide on a time for when you want to schedule the next round. Please be sure to include ALL individuals on the email/Slack/Teams message. Do not message each individual in a "piecemeal" fashion.

2. Fill out this Google Form to let Mr. Cleary and the Tournament Directors know that you will be intending to reschedule a round. Be sure to fill out the Form completely and to include ACCURATE information in all blanks. You should do this immediately following the posting of pairings for the round taking place after school. Fill out the form for EACH round you need to reschedule.

3. Meet with your judge and your opponent during the predetermined scheduled time and hold the debate. Message Xavier and Sherwin after the round is over to let us know that the debate has concluded. We will then follow up with the judge to ensure that the decision has been submitted properly.

Remember that you must do all three steps in this order to not get a forfeit for the round.
