Qualification Procedures

Rationale: Due to Covid, the majority of the state was unable to hold regular tournaments and the normal qualification requirements would make it impossible for most teams to participate.  Additionally, because the tournament is online only, we don't have room and space limitations. Therefore, we are excited to relax entry limits and invite more students to participate. The traditional qualification procedures of placement at a tournament, whether an invitational or a district tournament, will be suspended. 

Guidelines:

* Each school is guaranteed at least one entry in each event.

* Each school should only allow the Top 50% of their roster in each event. For example, if a school had 6 LD students and 4 Oratory students, they should only register up to 3 LD and 2 OO entries.

Disclaimers: While this is up to the coach/teacher to decide, the key factor to remember is that this is the state tournament, and there should be some level of ability in the entry to be successful and keep the level of competition up for everyone. The tournament reserves the right to limit overall entries per school in order to ensure competitive balance. For example, even if you have 20 LDers, if the overall tournament only has 30 entires, we'll implement a cap to ensure that no school has more than 25% of the field.
