Travel Information

DIRECTIONS:   

Jackson High School is located at 717 S. Harkness Street, Jackson GA 30233.  While it’s best to use your favorite map program/GPS to find the ideal route from your school, these directions are provided for your convenience—we’d hate for you to end up in Jackson County instead of little ole’ Jackson!

From the Atlanta area:

Take I-75 South to Exit 205. Turn left (heading East) onto Hwy 16. Go 7.1 miles, and turn right on Imogene Goff Road (this is across the street from the Ingles, the street is just prior to the Dollar General Market parking lot). Make a left on S. Harkness Street, and you will pass the front entrance of Jackson High School. Turn right on George Tate Road, and then another right into the student parking lot. Teams will enter through the cafeteria doors. In the event that registration numbers require us to use both campuses, all policy debate competition will take place at Henderson Middle School, which is located immediately behind the high school—parking entrance for HMS is just past the JHS student parking lot on George Tate Road. 

From East of Atlanta:

Take I-20 West to Exit 93 in Covington. Follow the Covington By-Pass Road across Hwy 278 and curve around, turning left on Hwy 36 South (there will be a McDonald’s and a CVS on the left at this intersection). Continue on Hwy 36 South toward Jackson, approximately 23 miles. Cross over the railroad tracks into Jackson, and at the stop light, turn right on Third Street (intersection has Subway/Bruster’s/Burger King on the corners). Continue through town past the square, and turn left on Harkness Street (there is no light here, but the street is immediately past the Butts County Administrative Building on your left). The road forks and curves slightly to the right, then you’ll turn left onto George Tate Road. The student parking lot will be on your right. Please enter through the cafeteria doors. 

LODGING:

We deliberately offer a one-day tournament to allow teams to compete on smaller budgets (and to let coaches spend the night at home…). If, however, you are in need of overnight accommodations, we hope the following information will help.  Jackson is small, and there are only two motels in town:

There are other options, if you are willing to drive a bit.  The following is a list of hotels to the northeast of Jackson, along I-75.  There are also hotels in Griffin, to the west of I-75.  Either option will mean a drive of 20-30 minutes to get to JHS.  If you need to stay overnight and would like further information, please email the tournament director.
