Judging Impromptu

If you get scheduled to judge a round of impromptu speaking, please note!  We are following the format that PHSSL is using this year, so please follow the directions below.

All of the contestants will come to your room.
Open your list of impromptu topics and announce the topic area to all of the contestants.
Ask the first contestant to choose three numbers between 1 and 18.  Tell that contestant the three topics that were chosen and ask them to pick one about which they will speak.  Once the contestant has made a choice, set the time for 7 minutes and press start.  The contestant has a total of seven (7) minutes to prepare AND deliver the speech.  They can use those 7 minutes in any combination that they choose (3 min prep, 4 min speech; 1-minute prep, 6 minute speech; 5 minute prep, 2 minute speech, etc.).  They may end up not using the full 7 minutes.
Once the student has made a choice of the three topics, eliminate those three numbers from the list.
Students should prep in the room with you.  Please call out the time as it passes so that they know how much time they have used for prep, and then use hand signals for the speakers when they are delivering their speeches.
Repeat the process for the second speaker, and then for all remaining speakers.

As always, write comments on the ballots as students speak.
Rank the students, with “1” being given to the best speaker, “2” to the second best, etc.  No ties in ranks.
Hit submit, and then confirm your submission.

Thank you for judging today!
