The Team Pittsburgh Winter Invitational

2021 — NSDA Campus, PA/US

Judging Impromptu?

If you are judging impromptu at this tournament, please note the following:

- soon after the ballots and schematics are sent out for a round, all impromptu judges will receive an email from the Pittsburgh NSDA gmail account.  The email will have a repeat of these directions in it.  The email will also list all the topics for that round, usually 18.

- have the first speaker pick 3 numbers from 1 to 18 (or 15 if that is all the topics that are available). Read the topic choices to the contestant.  Once a student has picked which of the topics they are using, eliminate those three topics from being picked again.

- once a student has picked a topic, timing should begin. The student has 7 minutes to use in any combination that they choose between prep and speaking. You should call out time to the student as it passes.

- write comments as the students are speaking.  This tournament is following the 50 word minimum rule, so you should write extensively!!

-when the round is finished, rank all the students (remember - a "1" goes to the best student in the round). Hit submit, then confirm the ballot and you are done.

Thanks for judging at this tournament!
