GFCA State

2018 — GA/US

Colleagues-

The Varsity State Championships will be held March 2-4 at Lassiter High School. Policy Debate will continue through Sunday. A final schedule will be added to this webpage as soon as we have a clearer picture of entries after At-Large and Member bids.

Pam Childress, Director of Communications, has sent out the qualifiers list which includes those entries that are fully qualified and those entries that qualify for At-Large application. The list can be found by following this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16JOCBE8JxPwOr2ZfF25YTBS7Na7q0wnoQ8yJPE1gPGU/edit?usp=sharing.

Entry fees are $50.00/student. This includes dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday. If students are in two events, the total is $85.00 per student. This fee covers trophies, meals, hiring judges, tab room staff and reimbursement to the host school for services rendered.

Ricardo Saenz, formerly of Alpharetta HS, Garrett Abelkop of Chattahoochee HS, Shunta Jordan of Pace Academy, Robert Walker of Warner Robins HS and Mary Kay Waterman of The Lovett School will run the events in tabroom.com. Thanks to them for giving their time and talents to the tournament.

Walter Cotter of Lassiter HS will host the tournament and is preparation with his community to provide hospitality and to assure that the facilities are ready for a great weekend of competition.

In debate, if there are less than 30 entries, the tournament will have 5 preliminary rounds and clear to quarterfinals. If there are 31 entries or more, the tournament will have 6 preliminary rounds and clear to octofinals, which may include a partial-octofinal if warranted. .

The first round of competition will begin at 4:30pm. Please do not arrive before 4pm as school will be letting out before then and there will absolutely no parking or holding area for students until Lassiter HS students and staff have a chance to leave.
