Single Entry

Students may only enter one debate event.

Debate Topics

We will be utilizing the Jan/Feb LD topic, and the Feb PF topic. Please see the link on the right for more information.

Format

Similar to CHSSA State tournament: "2 Downs & Out" until 8 or fewer entries remain - then seeded single-elimination bracket to determine qualifiers. Please see the link on the right for more information.

Judging

Due to a major local college tournament on the same weekend, we will be very limited on hired judges for this tournament. Thus, we are altering our judging requirements a little to both better fit the format of the qualifying tournament, and to take into account the limited hired judge pool for this weekend.

1. Each school will be required to bring 1 judge for every 6 entries, or portion thereof, up to a max of 4 judges.

2. Schools will only be able to buy out of one judge obligation, and only if it is their 3rd or 4th judge. Entries for a school will be limited if they are under their obligation.

3. School judge obligations are for both days. They don't necessarily need to be the same person on Friday as on Saturday, but the school will need to fill the obligation. If your school judge will be a different person each day, please email the tournament when you register the judges on Tabroom so that we can code them into the system properly.

4. All school judges will be obligated to judge one round past when the last entry from their school is eliminated - e.g. if a school's last entry is eliminated during Rd 4, judges from that school will be obligated through Rd 5, and then released.

5. For schools willing to bring judges above their required obligation, we would be more than happy to either pay the individual as a hired judge, or waive the school's entry fee up to the amount equivalent to the hired judge payment.

If any of these will be a hardship for your program, please contact the tournament when you register, and we will see if any accommodations can be made.

If a school brings adult judges, please enter judges under THEIR name, not as the name of their child.

Entry Limits

All events will be capped at 10 entries per school.

Flighting of Debate Events

Parli & Public Forum will be flighted in a similar manner to the CHSSA State tournament - Flight 1 in most rooms will be PF, with Flight 2 being Parli, allowing Parli to prep during the first flight of PF. If PF entries outnumber Parli entries, a small number of rooms may be double-flighted with PF in both 1st & 2nd flight.

Lincoln-Douglas will be double-flighted.

We will single-flight PF & Parli first, and then LD, when judge numbers allow.

Principal's Designation Letter

Before any school is permitted to compete in any OCSL tournament, they must have a signed copy of the Principal's Designation Letter on file with the League.  This document confirms who is officially designated to represent each school as the official sponsor with the League, and who is authorized to represent the school as an official chaperone at League tournaments.  Please have your principal fill out and sign the letter, which can be downloaded from the front page of each OCSL tournament website, and return it to the league no later than registration of first League tournament your school participates in this year.

League Dues Invoice

League Dues are $30.00 per school per year.  These are expected to be paid at or before a school's first OCSL tournament of the year.  An invoice specifically for league dues is located on the front page of each OCSL tournament website.  These dues only need to be paid once per year, not for each tournament.
