Richfield High School is excited to announce the return of our debate tournament after a few years off. We are revamping the tournament and trying something that we think will be unique and exciting. We also have a brand new high school (not even all the way finished yet) that we want to show off.
Here are the details:
TIME AND DATE: This is a one-day tournament on Saturday, November 5, 2016. The start time will be 8:00am and the tournament will end at 4:00pm (we promise!).
EVENTS: It is an I.E.s Only Tournament featuring Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, Duo, Impromptu, National Extemp, Foreign Extemp, Spar, and Oratory. All participants will compete in an open division.
ENTRIES: There is unlimited entry. Students will be able to enter as many events as they want. Schools can register students right up to the start time of the tournament. We will not restrict entries in any events.
JUDGES: Schools attending will need to provide 1 judge, plus one judge for every 10 students – that’s students, not entries. (1-9 kids = 1 judge, 10-19 kids = 2 judges, 20-29 kids = 3 judges, etc.)
SERVICES: Concessions will be available for purchase. A lunch will be provided for all coaches and judges.
DEADLINES: Schools can register and enter students in events right up to the start time of the tournament. We will not be charging drop fees for student entries.
AWARDS: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded for each event, as well as an individual Grand Champion award (1st, 2nd, 3rd) for the students with the highest overall point total. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team trophies will also be given.
ROUNDS: Most noticeable in our new format is that the tournament will have NO ROUNDS! We will run on an ‘open round’ format that should allow for a non-stop tournament.
