Welcome!!

We're looking forward to hosting your team this year.  Preparations are well underway, so we're ready and waiting for competition to begin on Saturday, November 21st.  A few bits of information that may help you.

1.  Drop off is much easier on the west side by the Seminary building.  Extemp prep will be in the Auxilary Gym as you enter, so easy drop off point for your extempers.

2.  Poetry Prose alternates rounds (1st round prose, 2nd round poetry, etc.).  There should be a ballot posted on the UDCA website with my tournament invite.  Students DO NOT have to be memorized (can have a script), but presentations typically are better if they are. 

3.  There will be lots of food.  For students, judges, and coaches.  Please encourage your students to support VHS Debate by purchasing food from us. 

4.  Viking helmets will be award to tournament champions in each division.  The coach of the sweeps winning team will be awarded a helmet, too.

5.  Congress docket is posted and includes legislation from both the UDCA website and the 2015 Nationals docket found on the NSDA website. 

6.  Please message me at (801) 390-2162 with last minute changes or drops the morning of the tournament.  I like to keep the tournament running on time, so knowing changes in advance really helps me to do so.

7.  Parli topics are announced at the tournament.  Students have 20 minutes to prep their case, either pro or con on the topic.  There should be teaching materials posted on the UDCA site with my tourney invite.  Proposed topic areas for Parli this year are Election 2016, animal rights, foreign aid, and pop culture.

8.  4th round of Impromptu is ALWAYS visual.  Prep your kids for that so they aren't lost 4th round.

9.  Makes checks payable to Viewmont Debate, please. 

10.  If you have Congress kids, please bring a Parliamentarian that CAN STAY FOR ALL 3 SESSIONS.  Very important as far as fair tabulation for the congress kids.
