Lee County Spring Fling

2015 — GA/US

To the Coaches and Members of the Forensics Community:

You are cordially invited to join us for the first annual Lee County High School Spring Fling on Saturday, May 9, 2015! This is the last chance for your students to receive critiques in competition before the NCFL and NSDA national tournaments – you won’t want to miss it. We also invite any 8th grade students wishing to try their hand at high school forensics for the first time to join us as well. This tournament can be their first stepping stone into our community.

The competition will be hosted at Lee County High School on State Route 32. Bus parking is available in front of the school. (Yes, this is a change from the original announcement.)

Lee County High School

We are offering four rounds of competition in the following events:

  • Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Impromptu Speaking
  • Original Oratory
  • Declamation
  • Program of Oral Interpretation
  • Prose and Poetry
  • Dramatic Interpretation
  • Humorous Interpretation
  • Duo Interpretation
  • Duo Improvisation
  • Expository
  • Storytelling
  • Radio Speaking

We will also offer two sessions of Congressional Debate!

Here’s where things get fun: We will allow quadruple entering in all IEs except Extemporaneous Speaking. If you have students wishing to compete in extemp, they may only triple enter in IEs. Furthermore, students entered in Congressional Debate are also invited to enter in up to two IEs (including extemp); however, there will not be recess breaks for those entered in other events. Congress will continue to be in session as long as there are at least four people representing two or more schools in the chamber.

Additionally, we will continue the Spring Fling tradition of casual attire for competitors. (Hawaiian shirts are always a hit among the kids.) While anyone is more than welcome to come in full speech and debate dress attire, we recognize at this point in the year a more relaxed tournament in the middle of testing comes as welcome news for most students.

However, what we may lack in dress attire, we make up for in quality ballots! We strongly encourage our judges to fill up as much blank space as possible with critiques, as these could potentially prove to be critical to a competitor's success at nationals.

Online registration will be open through Thursday, May 7th at 7 p.m., at which point the system will no longer accept new entries. However, drops and judge changes can be made without incurring a fee until Friday, May 8th at 7 p.m.

Hired judging will only be available on a very limited basis, so please request it as far in advance as possible.

We look forward to seeing all of you in Leesburg!
