RE: MILES CITY INVITATIONAL SPEECH, DRAMA, AND DEBATE TOURNAMENT

Custer County District High School cordially invites you to the Miles City Cowboy Invitational Tournament on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Event Location: All events will be held on the CCDHS campus at 20. S. Center in Miles City.

Registration will be through the Tabroom.com website at: http://custerco.tabroom.com/ ending Friday, October 31st at 5 PM. Check in will be online through the Tabroom website. We will be keeping score through hand-tabbing. We will offer all Class A events.

Each school may enter up to three entries in each event. Double entry is allowed. If you have drops, please make sure to update your info at the tabroom.com site. After Thursday, Nov. 6th at 5 PM, call or text Heather Schmitz’ cell at (406) 853-0055, or email drops to her at hschmitz@milescity.k12.mt.us as soon as possible.

MHSA Rules: All events will be conducted according to the rules in the MHSA handbook. All contestants will follow class A rules, with the exception of judge restrictions, some judges will have graduated last year. Also, coaches are encouraged to watch rounds and may be asked to judge. Please familiarize your contestants with the timing procedures and be sure that each contestant has a digital kitchen timer or equivalent. Time will be counting up.

DEBATE TOPICS:

Public Forum: Resolved: The United Kingdom should rejoin the European Union.

LD Resolution: Resolved: In the United States criminal justice system, plea bargaining is just.

Policy Resolution: Resolved: The United States federal government should significantly increase its exploration and/or development of the Arctic.

The November extemp topics will be used.

FOOD:

Concessions will be available for sale for contestants and will be available until 2:00 PM. School purchase orders will be accepted. Your team may run a tab, then pay by PO by 2:00 PM. There will also be a volunteer group that will be providing lunches for $6.00 each.

**Lunch will be 2 slices of Little Caesar’s Pizza, chips, Rice Krispie Treat, and a drink.** Please email Heather Schmitz at hschmitz@milescity.k12.mt.us and indicate the number of lunches your team will be needing by Friday, Oct. 31st. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided free of charge for judges, bus drivers, and coaches in room 6 (the family and consumer sciences room).

COMPETITION SITE:

All events will be held at CCDHS. The gym lobby and the upper mezzanine in the gym will be used for the commons area for contestants. Contestants should be there when not in rounds. Remember contestants may not be in competition rooms unless a judge or coach is present. At the end of the tournament, please ask your team members to pick up their area. The awards assembly will be as soon as possible following finals and will be in the auditorium.

COMPETITION:

There will be three preliminary rounds and finals in all events with 8 or more contestants. The schedule for the day is:

The awards assembly will be in the auditorium as soon as possible after all rounds have been tabulated.

Policy Debate will be round robin of four rounds. Final placement will be determined by win/loss record and points.

Extemp Draw will be in Room 403.

AWARDS:

Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded for first place in each class for Speech and Drama. Medals and certificates will be awarded for 1st through 8th places for individual finalists.
