Thompson Valley Screaming Eagle Invitational

Dear Coaches and Competitors,

You are cordially invited to attend the Thompson Valley Screaming Eagle Invitational on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Register at tvse.tabroom.com. Please see tournament website for additional information.

EVENTS: National Extemporaneous Speaking, Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, Policy Debate, Duo, Poetry, Original Oratory, Public Forum Debate, Drama, Humor, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Informative Speaking, and Congress.

PRE-REGISTRATION: Four entries are allowed in all events. Additional entries can be waitlisted and will be accommodated if space is available – and if you can bring judges with you. You can register for the tournament through November 12. Any entries after that date will be accepted on a space-available basis. Please try to register early. My building is not very large, so the tournament fills quickly. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis until the tournament reaches capacity. Changes to registration entries are allowed without cost until Wednesday, November 15.

RULES:

> We will be using the November NSDA resolutions for Public Forum and LD debates.

> A coach or adult responsible for the team (who can judge) must be present and reachable at all times during the tournament.

> Doubling is not allowed within waves but encouraged across waves, except for those in Policy. No doubling for Policy registrants. No doubling in both Nat and Int’l Extemp.

> Four entries per school are allowed in all events (Congress A & B are considered separate events and allow six entries each).

> For the tournament to run an event, there must be at least four (4) registered competitors/teams by November 12.

> CHSAA rules for all events.

> The deadline for all Congress legislation is November 8, with the final docket posted on Tabroom by November 9. Minimum one bill or resolution per four entries with a max of four per team.

> For Congress, no impeaching the PO nor introducing legislation that is not on the final docket.

JUDGING: Each year the primary challenge that this tournament faces is obtaining enough judges, so please, coaches, bring judges to cover rounds based on your entries. Please bring a judge to cover three rounds for each two debate entries and each six speech event entries. All judges must register on Tabroom by November 14. Every attempt will be made to avoid the use of lay judges in CX and LD rounds. If needed, coaches may be asked to judge rounds to keep the tournament on time. If you will not be with your team, then please send someone who is qualified to judge.

AWARDS: In all events, first, second, and third-place winners will receive awards. Additional places will be awarded depending on the number of participants in the event. We will award superior and excellent ribbons for events as merited. In Congress, the tournament will recognize presiding officers, as well as outstanding and superior speakers.

FOOD: Food will be available for purchase for all students. Please encourage your students not to bring only $20 bills, as they rapidly clean out my little change box. We can also take credit cards.

Coaches and judges will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

FEES: Fees are $12 per event entry; $17 for Policy, PF, and Duo; and $10 for Congress. Please make checks payable to Thompson Valley High Speech & Debate. Fees must be paid according to pre-registration entry numbers (as of November 12).
