Welcome to the Salina South Cougar Debate Invitational

Welcome friends,

You and your debaters are cordially invited to the Salina South High Cougar Invitational Debate Tournament on Saturday, November 15, 2025. This will be a one day tournament consisting of four rounds. There will be three divisions: Open (anyone), JV(1st & 2nd year only), & Novice (restricted to Novice Case List). Please adhere to this and communicate it to your novice debaters.. Please find rules, details and schedule below:

1. We will use the KSHSAA approved 2025-2026 high school debate topic.

2. Entry fees are $7.00 per team. Initially we will be accepting 4 teams per school. Extra entries will be allowed after the registration deadline. Priority will go to schools who have given us extra entries.

3. Entries will be due by noon on Saturday, November 8th. Any cancellation after this deadline will still result in registration fees being charged to your school.

4. Sponsors/coaches may be asked to judge in order to maintain the timeliness of our tournament.

5. Any team more than 10 minutes late to a round, through no fault of the tournament, will forfeit and receive a 3/4 ranking.

6. The first round will be preset and we will direct match the remaining rounds.

7. All debates will be the 8-3-5 Cross Examination format with 8 minutes of prep for each team.

8. Tab will be open.

9. We will medal the top six teams in each division.

10. Sweeps will be calculated for schools that are entered in all three divisions based on each school’s best four entries.

Registration 7:15 – 7:45 a.m.

Round 1 8:00 – 9:30 a.m.

Round 2 9:45 – 11:15 a.m.

Lunch 11:15 – 12:15 p.m.

Round 3 12:15 – 1:45 p.m.

Round 4 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
